Primary school students of St. Nicholas College will enjoy the use of their brand new multimillion dollar two -storey classroom when they return for the fourth term on 26 September after it was officially dedicated and opened as part of school’s anniversary celebration on Friday 16th September at the Primary compound.
The estimated 2.1 Million dollar classroom complex consists of six classrooms, two offices, conference room for teachers, storage and a school canteen, and convenient room for both boys and girls.
In her speech marking the occasion, the Principal of St. Nicholas College Canon Christina Vunagi said, the two storey building in the Primary school will cater for double streams from year one to year six.
“I wish to congratulate and thank all Primary school students, teachers and parents for your support and for trusting me to manage your funds. My request to you the users, staff and students of Primary school is to look after the building and use it for the purpose it is intended. Keep it clean both inside and outside”, the Principal said in her speech.
“With the completion of this classroom, all the aging Saint Nicholas buildings have all been replaced and for me, I feel that my work is done and I wish to thank God for the blessings on the school”, she further stated.
The building was jointly funded by the Solomon Islands Government, Anglican Church of Melanesia and the school through support of parents and supporters.
Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD), Dr Franco Rodie also applauded the college for her clear vision and mission established by the pioneer leaders of the Anglican Church of Melanesia and the teaching staff of the college.
“This is evident in this school today – that education is paramount and that the school does not only cater for Anglican Church of Melanesia followers, but also the wider Solomon Islands community”, the Permanent Secretary said.
The new classroom building was jointly opened by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, the Most Reverend George Takeli and the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD), Dr Franco Rodie.
