CCC Opens New Home For Victims Of GBV

THE Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) owned Christian Care Centre (CCC) has officially blessed and dedicated the newly built home for the young female victims OF Gender Based Violence (GBV) called ‘Rainbow Wing’ on the 13th of October 2017 located at Tenaru, North Guadalcanal.

The dedication ceremony was officiated by the Right Reverend Nathan Tome; Bishop of the Diocese of Guadalcanal and Chair of the Cristian Care Centre Board.

The CCC Coordinator, Sister Phyllis Sau in her address at the opening of the building said, the new home will surely provide a safe home for the continuous increasing number of victimized young females who came into the Centre.

“We accommodated both women, young girls and Children in one building. But this is not that good. Not because of just over crowding, but that fact that they were in different age groups which need different types of environment and treatment;” she said.

Country Director for World Vision Solomon Islands, Mr Janes Imanuel Ginting said he is pleased to see the project completed and is ready to accommodate young females whom are victims of Domestic Violence.

The project emerges from close collaboration between World Vision through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia and ACOM in partnership with Christian Care Centre since 2013 as part of their Channels of Hope (CoH) project.

The Anglican Church of Melanesia would also like to thank the Anglican Mission Board in New Zealand for providing  NZ $15,000 for the completion of the project. The Anglican Church of Canada also assisted in funding the project.

The new Rainbow Wing at the Christian Care Centre has a total of 7 rooms – 5 upstairs and 2 rooms on the ground floor plus an office room and a huge living room downstairs.

The new wing will increase the Centre’s capacity by almost 30 beds and offer a dedicated space for teenagers and young girls.

Currently ten sisters are manning the Centre.
