The Provincial Mothers’ Union (PMU) of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) has extended compassionate support to inmates at the Rove Correctional Center this afternoon.
A team led by PMU President Sandra Rollands visited the center and handed over three large bags filled with essential items for the inmates’ daily use. These bags contained a variety of goods, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, clothing, combs, brushes, and shaving gear, among other necessities.
Rove Correctional Center Commandant Cecil Nokia expressed heartfelt gratitude for the PMU’s continued support. He commended the generosity of the union and acknowledged the positive impact their contributions have on the inmates’ well-being.
“We are very grateful for the support from the Mothers’ Union. These items will certainly go a long way in helping the inmates with their daily lives,” said Commandant Nokia.
PMU President Sandra Rollands, who personally handed over the goods, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting the inmates.
“We are happy to provide these items to the inmates. It’s a small gesture, but one that we hope brings comfort and aids in their rehabilitation,” said Rollands.
This donation reflects the PMU’s deep commitment to assisting vulnerable groups, particularly those within the correctional system. The Mothers’ Union remains dedicated to fostering positive change and supporting initiatives that promote the well-being and rehabilitation of inmates.
In addition to providing material support, the PMU has been conducting a Positive Parenting Program for the inmates throughout the year, with plans to continue the initiative next year.
“Through our Positive Parenting Program, we hope to provide the inmates with tools to improve their relationships with their families, which is a crucial part of their reintegration into society,” said President Rollands.
