More than 200 Youth members from Lunga, Gaobata, and Ghueora parishes in the Diocese of Guadalcanal (DOG) officially opened their one-week rally at Good Shepherd Church, east of Honiara on Tuesday morning.
The theme for the rally is: Retrieving, Reimagining, and Remapping the values of young people in the diocese, beginning with the three parishes.
Under the theme, the event seeks to empower young individuals to rediscover their purpose and strengthen their connections with Christ, their family, and their communities.
The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking address by Dr. Zaku, who sparked inspiration and invoked reflection among the attendees.
Addressing the youths in his keynote address, Reverend Dr. Atkin Zaku, Mission Secretary of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) expressed the significance of the youth rally, stating, “You are here to see Jesus”.
‘Your coming here is to retrieve, reimagine, and remap your journey with Christ.” By emphasizing the spiritual aspect, Dr. Zaku encouraged the young participants to embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery, finding comfort in their faith.
Furthermore, the Bishop of the Diocese of Guadalcanal (DoG) the Right Reverend Benedict Loe who officially declared the rally opened inspired the attendees to utilize this rally as a remarkable opportunity for profound self-examination and personal growth. The event aims to serve as a catalyst for the youth to refocus their goals, acknowledge their potential, and contribute positively to their communities.
Throughout the week, the rally will feature several activities, including Bible studies, Teachings and sharing, Testimonies, group discussions, learning about Law and Order, and culture, and engaging sessions led by invited prominent and experienced mentors. The participants will also engage in other activities like singing competitions and sports.
The Diocesan aims and objectives for youth’s active involvement in this week-long rally demonstrate their determination to overcome challenges, reclaim their values, and actively contribute to the betterment of their society. By encouraging open dialogue, self-reflection, and community-driven initiatives, the event seeks to create a lasting impact on the lives of young individuals in the three parishes in the Diocese of Guadalcanal.
As the rally continues, participants anticipate a transformative experience that will equip them with the necessary tools to become empowered ambassadors of positive change in their communities, families, and personal lives. The diocese supports this rally as it aligns with its mission to nurture a generation of resilient and responsible individuals who can shape the future of the region.
Rev. Chris Sam, Mission Secretary of the Diocese of Guadalcanal said; The week-long rally promises to inspire, motivate, and empower these young individuals to embark on a renewed journey towards personal growth, community impact, and a brighter future for Guadalcanal.
His office is expecting other parishes within the diocese to follow suit at their timing; he said.
