The COMMUNITY OF THE SISTERS OF THE CHURCH (CSC) together with their associates, supporters, family members and friends witnessed the blessing of the new Sister Provincial for the Community of the Sisters of the Church in the Solomon Islands at Tetere Ni Kolivuti (TNK) on Sunday 13th 2013.
The new Sister Provincial is Sister Kathleen Kapei who is from the Lord Howe islands in the Malaita Outer Islands.
Mother Superior for the Sisters of the Church World Wide – Sr. Linda Mary who is from Australia officiated at the blessing ceremony.
Sr. Mary shared from 2 Timothy chapter 3 and Luke’s Gospel chapter 18 verses 1-8, where she highlighted the need for one to have hope and faith in God in everything we do in order to grow strong in the love of God.
She also urges the members of the religious order not forget the foundations of the community.
Coming from a very active cultural background and being the eldest in the family of six Kathleen was not allowed to attend further education, but to stay home and looked after her brothers and sisters; his dad addressed the crowd at TNK.
“However with God’s plan, Kathleen became interested and later accepted into the Community of the Sisters of the Church way back 1988;” Mr. Kapei said.
In year 2002, Sr. Kathleen made her life vow with the community.
In 2004, Sr. Kathleen was voted to become the second Sister Provincial and served the office for two terms, from 2004 to 2007 and 2008 to 2010.
Asked what would be her major plans for the community as she takes on the responsibility again.
Sr. Kathleen said one of her aim is to bring back the community into their original aims and objectives and would work closely with churches, Government and other organizations to reduce the rising social problems we have in our society today.
On this note, Sr. Kathleen urged the community to support her in the leadership role.
As he congratulated Sr. Kathleen for taking on again this very important role in the (CSC), the General Secretary of the Church of Melanesia Dr. Abraham Hauriasi also thank the associates of the community for their support towards the mission and ministry of the CSC, filling in the gaps in terms of financial assistance and in-kind support, where the Provincial Head Quarter of the Church could not take on. He said the four religious orders are one of the significant strengths of the church.
Likewise, VICAR General to the Diocese of Central Melanesia, Bishop Jonnie Kuper urged Sr. Kathleen to continue on with the good work left by the outgoing Sr. Provincial, Sr. Phillis Sau.
The leader of the Associates to the community (CSC), Rev. Brown Beu, who is also the Premier of Temotu Province made a call to all members of the church to support the community.
He said the associates are important to the mission and ministry of the community.
Rev. Beu also assures Sr. Kathleen that the associates will continue to work with her and the community.
The day’s celebration ended with feasting and entertainments put on by the Sisters of the Community (CSC) and cultural performances from the relatives of the Sr. Kathleen.
